Drive to Survive

December 9, 2011

Recent accidents in Harford County over the past few weeks have unfortunately resulted in fatalities. Driving distracted is a growing epidemic throughout the country.

Eating, changing radio stations, texting, holding a cell phone, and putting on makeup are just some examples of things you should not be doing while driving.

The members of the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company hope that this holiday season and throughout the year you will:

- Slow down, especially in bad weather.

- Drive defensively and practice patience behind the wheel.

- Don't drive distracted -- Maryland State Law requires the use of a "hands free" device for your cell phone.

- NEVER drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

- Wear your seatbelt and make sure your passengers are also belted.

The volunteers at Jarrettsville invest thousands of hours a year training in emergency medicine and rescue - hoping to never use our skills. We typically meet you on what is the worst day of your life. Our hope is to be able to talk to you the day after.

Please drive carefully. The life you save may be your own.
