Purpose:
The EMS (Emergency Medical Services) Division of the Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company provides emergency life saving medical care to the town of Jarrettsville and surrounding areas. They also assist the fire division as needed on fire and rescue incidents.
About:
The EMS division responds to over 1,000 medical calls a year. We have two ambulances and one chase car, all of which are fully equipped ALS (Advanced Life Support) units. Jarrettsville maintains their units to the highest standards with the most up to date equipment, enabling them to all receive the seal of excellence each year.
We respond not only to the Jarrettsville area, but also to neighboring companies in Harford, Baltimore, and York counties. This is done through mutual aid agreements that allow assistance to be provided in any manner necessary. In addition to working closely with other fire companies, we also work with the Maryland State Police and their Aviation Division, which provides Medivac service to our area. Their service provides us the ability to transport critical patients to the appropriate facility in minimal times. The MSP Medivac takes approximately 15 minutes to arrive in the Jarrettsville area when requested, and for a patient in need of the state’s level-one trauma center, the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center located in downtown Baltimore, the MSP Medivac can arrive there in approximately 8 minutes from an accident scene. This service has proved to be a vital asset to a rural area.

Training:
The Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company provides each member the opportunity to obtain several different levels of training that they choose to advance to, beginning with first responder providers (EMR's). Clinicians of various trianing levels are trained providers to treat any injury or illness with various skills. In addition to EMR, we also have mant basic life support (BLS) providers and providers that advance their skills to advanced life support (ALS). These individuals have the ability to treat critical trauma and medical problems with state of the art life saving equipment and medications. Below is a list of each level of training and their initial requirements to obtain the certification.
