The Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for an automatic alarm on Forest Guard Court around 17:00 hrs. Chief 7-1 arrived shortly after the alert, and upgraded the assignment to a working dwelling fire as smoke was showing from the 1st floor. Engine 714 arrived and advanced an 1 3/4" hand line through the front door and located the fire in the downstairs laundry room that had extended into a bathroom and storage area. Other arriving units, performed ventilation, search & rescue, and overhaul. A quick knock was made and crews remained on scene for an extended time to check for extension and overhaul of the dwelling. One firefighter was treated and transported for heat exhaustion to an area hospital. Working smoke alarms signaled the occupant of the fire which greatly assisted in the early notification of 911.
