| A resident in the 2900 block of Bradenbaugh Road requested a Harford County Hazmat representative to investigate a household quantity spill of Malathion 50% insecticide solution. Upon arriving, the Hazmat Crew Chief found a 16 ounce plastic bottle had ruptured, spilling the solution onto the window sill and concrete wall. Due to the strong odor and respiratory issues with the product, a full Hazmat response was requested at approximately 1900 hours.
Once Jarrettsville units arrived, ventilation was set up to start clearing the residence of the odor. When Hazmat personnel arrived, a solution recommended by the Maryland Department of the Environment was mixed to neutralize the product. Hazmat personnel donned Level B coveralls along with respiratory protection, and proceeded to finish interior ventilation, as well as clean up as much of the remaining spill as possible. Once cleaned, the affected area was sprayed with the neutralizing solution, ridding the residence of any further health hazards.
In addition to assisting with ventilation, additional members of Jarrettsville assisted with RIT operations and gross decontamination for the entry teams, and provided lighting for scene safety. The stand-by medic crew at the scene monitored the vitals of all entry personnel, both prior to entering and after exiting the residence. Last units cleared the scene at 2202 hours. |
