The Jarrettsville Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a hazardous materials situation on Knopp Road at around 10:40 p.m. Initially alerted as a medical incident, EMS crews arrived on the scene of a campground with multiple patients reporting similar symptoms. Personnel on-scene quickly requested the Harford County HazMat team and more resources to the scene. Crews evacuated the building and treated a number of patients. The crews from Engine 714 and Rescue 751 used positive pressure fans to ventilate the buildings while hazmat teams decontaminated the patients and measured contaminant levels in the building. Crews remained on-scene until the early hours of the following morning before placing the scene under control. The source was determined to be animal repellant that was dispersed in the building.
